Positive Relationships Can Buffer Childhood Trauma and Toxic Stress, Researchers Say [bostonglobe.com]

By Kay Lazar, The Boston Globe, October 15, 2019 Traumatic events and toxic relationships during childhood can cast long shadows, often damaging mental health well into adulthood. But a growing body of research suggests sustained, positive relationships with caring adults can help mitigate the harmful effects of childhood trauma. And specialists say pediatricians, social workers, and others who work with kids should take steps to monitor and encourage those healthy relationships — just as...

Reframing Undesired Behaviors as an Aspect of Learning, not Punishment

Nevin Newell ·
At the Chula Vista, National City, and Linda Vista resource centers of Learn4Life Innovation High School San Diego, only four students were suspended during the 2016-17 school year – less than 1 percent of the student population of more than 500 students. Jessie Graham ·
Hello Nevin, This is so exciting to see! I hope there will be a replication of these programs. I am wondering how you prepare your staff to work in these programs? What is your model of supervision and evaluation? Do teachers know their own ACE score and stories? I look forward to hearing more! Jessie

Nevin Newell ·
Jessie, thank you for your questions. We conduct training and professional development specifically around Trauma Informed Practices. During this training we do allow our staff to assess themselves on the ACES survey as we discuss and process concepts and practices within the Trauma Informed framework . We also provide spaces for staff to share and reflect on their behavior and collaboration with our team and with students, in the context of developing deeper understandings of how our trauma...

Offset trauma for students by promoting positive experiences [exclusive.multibriefs.com]

Empathy: Can It Make The Difference?

Deborah McNelis M.Ed ·
Emotion has an enormous impact on imprinting memory in our brains. I had an experience when I was 6 years old that included emotion and I have the memory of it all of these many years later. It was a 6 year old birthday sleepover party. There were 7 girls invited that lived near each other and played together most days. A girl new to the neighborhood was invited only due to the requirement of the birthday girl’s mother. I was also invited. I lived a block away but did play with these girls...

I especially liked the bonus system, which really motivates to play more. If you are in search of a reliable and exciting Australian online casino, be sure to check out Treasury...
