Today, AAP President Sandra G. Hassink published a letter to the editor in The New York Times in response to an op-ed that ran in the paper earlier this week on childhood pover ty, referencing a new report from the Children’s Defense Fund (see section on report release below). In her letter, Dr. Hassink stressed pediatricians’ commitment to addressing childhood poverty as they would any other health issue, through prevention, early detection, diagnosis and treatment.
“Pediatricians will continue to speak up for children, from the walls of our clinics to the halls of the Capitol, until we achieve real progress on ensuring the foundations of health for every child in this country,” said Dr. Hassink.
