The Psychosocial Profile: A History-Taking Aid

1. The psychosocial history helps to distinguish functional primary care complaints from organic ones. 
2. As many as 1/2 - 3/4 of patient visits to primary care clinics have psychosocial causes prompting the visit as opposed to biomedical problems.
 
I learned about the importance of the psychosocial history extensively in my medical training and I believe it is time to get back to basics.   The ACE questions are simply components of the tried and true psychosocial history I was taught in medical school....... Thanks Tina.
