Summary:
Adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) are common within our population. Studies have shown that greater numbers of ACEs are strongly related to negative long-term physical and mental health outcomes. Recognizing that children often experience a gradual accumulation of ACEs, periodic screening allows providers the opportunity for early identification of children who may have been exposed to ACEs. In this webinar, we will provide an overview of how the Via Christi Family Medicine Clinic is implementing the CYW ACE-Q screening tool with pediatric patients to raise awareness of the importance of preventing further exposure to ACEs; identify what, if any, intervention or treatment may be required; and provide specialized care to those in need.
Learning Objectives:
- Provide an overview of ACEs science and Trauma-Informed Care
- Describe targeted patient population
- Highlight implementation process
- Identify lessons learned
