There could not be a more critical time to speak up for children on Capitol Hill, and this month, you can add your voice to the effort! Sign up today for the AAP Advocacy Day training in Washington, DC, on Monday, October 27.
Important update: Five travel scholarships for up to $500 each are available for use toward travel expenses. To apply for a scholarship, please fill out an application and submit it to kids1st@aap.org. The deadline to apply for a travel scholarship is 12 p.m. ET on Friday, October 17.
Beginning with an in-depth training session on how to advocate to members of Congress led by pediatrician federal policy experts and AAP staff, the day will culminate with visits to congressional offices on Capitol Hill to discuss the importance of extending the Childrenβs Health Insurance Program (CHIP) and the Medicaid payment increase; two critical programs impacting children and pediatricians that will face expiration if Congress does not act.
The training will begin at 8 a.m., with breakfast available at 7:30 a.m., and will conclude with a debrief session ending at 5 p.m. There is no registration fee to attend the Advocacy Day trainings.
There is also a daylong advocacy training on January 23, 2015, and the Academyβs annual Legislative Conference is taking place on April 12-14, 2015. Both events are in Washington, DC.
If you are interested in attending any of these trainings, please email Devin Miller in the AAP Washington Office at dmiller@aap.org.
Thank you for your continued dedication to the children you care for. We hope to see you at Advocacy Day later this month!
