Kidney disease is a rare disorder that affects 1 in 6 veterans (Deely, 2022). The prevalence rate of the disorder is at a 34% increase than the rest of the general population (National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases as cited in Deely, 2022). Similar to hypertension, kidney disease is a disorder that is often hard to detect. As the disorder worsens, the kidneys lose their ability to function properly resulting in Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD). This disease ranks within the 9th percentile in the United States of America, and its risk doubles with co-occurring disorders such as hypertension and diabetes. Additional demographics such as age, sex, and social and cultural factors contribute to the disorder (National Center for Healthcare Advancement and Partnerships, 2024). It is paramount for individuals to identify and intervene with protective treatment measures prior to the disease exacerbating. There are several resources and preventative factors utilized by the Veterans Health Administration such as the VA’s National Center for Health Promotion and Disease Prevention and the VA Kidney Disease and Dialysis Services Fact Sheet (2020).
