In January, I announced the “Weave and Cleave Movement,” defining it as The Faithful City (TFC)’s social and cultural movement that invites every human being and all sectors to come alongside, where everyone experiences being connected before being corrected, sharing struggles in compassion, and raising hope and resilience for the future journey altogether.
The second annual Weave and Cleave Conference, which I organized with Marcia Stanton, the founder of the Arizona ACEs Consortium, was held last Thursday in Phoenix, Arizona. 300 people gathered to love, care, and learn with 30 remarkable local and national speakers, 30 exhibitors, and 22 Community of Belonging Organizations and Weave and Cleave Movement Champions.
It was a historic day for the movement with the Arizona Trauma Informed Faith Coalition (AZTIFC) as we all heard Governor Katie Hobbs’ proclamation on “Arizona Trauma Awareness Month” declared by the Chief Executive Officer, Tonya Hamilton, from the Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family (GOYFF).
Throughout the conference, we all experienced and witnessed that everyone from all different heritages, faith traditions, professional fields, political ideologies, generations and cultures became woven together in genuine love and care to learn from one another with respect and gratitude. The tremendous sense of belonging generated a safe, joyful, and passionate engagement among the attendees during the whole day. At the end of the day, we scattered to our own fields, cleaving from collective trauma to a new experience of collective resilience and hope to spread unconditional love and constant care to the world, creating communities of belonging.
I sincerely appreciate the Maricopa County Department of Public Health (MCDPH), which has collaborated in a solid partnership for many years, making this powerful movement possible and modeling the way the faith community and the government work together and support each other.
The movement advances every day across all sectors and boundaries. Please join us on our future journey together.
