NICOLE CHRISTIAN-BRATHWAITE: "If a primary care provider is not culturally aware of how African Americans present, they may misinterpret those signs, dismiss them and fail to make the appropriate referrals. That is deeply harmful. Studies have found rates of recovery of African Americans from PTSD and depression are significantly lower than the rates for white patients. "
