The Standardized Assessment Protocol (SAP) Project Welcomes Children’s Homes of Cleveland County

Children’s Homes of Cleveland County (CHCC) has advocated for youth to receive superb care through their participation in Benchmarks’ Partnering for Excellence (PFE). However, now that the Standardized Assessment Protocol (SAP) is also growing, and more clinicians are needed, they are expanding their commitment to trauma-informed care. Benchmarks’ Standardized Assessment Protocol aims to link children over the age of 4 in foster care and In-Home Family Services to Trauma-intensive Comprehensive Clinical Assessments (TiCCAs) and appropriate holistic services.

Children’s Homes of Cleveland County is a trauma-informed agency that has been providing behavioral health services in Cleveland County and the surrounding area for over 50 years. Their service array includes residential placements for foster care youth, independent living services, adoption services, supervised family visitation, and outpatient mental health services. They are committed to providing trauma-informed services as evidenced by the collection of evidence-based treatment options they provide in their rural area. CHCC has been a PFE partner since 2016. CHCC is a local leader in administering trauma-informed assessments, including the TiCCA, demonstrating that an assessment that addresses all the domains of a child’s life leads to better outcomes for children, families, and their communities.

Earlier this year the Rutherford County SAP Partners Team (including the Rutherford County Department of Social Services and Partners Health Management) requested CHCC’s assistance to help with a TiCCA backlog and CHHCC agreed. The working relationship between CHCC, the DSS and Partners has been a strong one since the beginning and CHCC is now becoming a permanent partner. One way this relationship grew was through the relationship building that took place during monthly implementation meetings.   Given CHCC’s commitment, one of SAP’s newer counties, Cabarrus, requested their services as well. Fortunately, CHCC has been able to expand their clinician availability recently and said yes to Cabarrus Department of Human Services’ request! Benchmarks’ welcomes Children’s Homes of Cleveland County to the SAP team and looks forward to their continued caring, trauma-informed work for our most vulnerable children and families.
