This conversation will take place on Zoom. It will be hosted by @Erin Connolly and
 @Whitney Marris of The Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy & Practice (CTIPP) with support from @Christine Cissy White and @Robin M Cogan of The Relentless School Nurse. Our special guests will be the co-producers of the  Portraits of Professional Caregivers documentary, Vic Compher & Rodney Whittenberg. 

More About Our Special Guests

Vic Compher, co-producer and director of Portraits of Professional CAREgivers, began his “encore career” in filmmaking about 12 years ago and CAREgivers is his fourth project. His other films include: “Treasures of the Elders,” “ Peace of the Elders,” and “I Cannot be Silent”. All of his documentaries are story-driven, dramatic, personal accounts of real people’s lives. In a variety of organizational settings, Vic has discovered and witnessed firsthand the “passion and the pain” which dedicated, empathic, professional caregivers experience daily. For 15 years he has conducted workshops that have proven to be very helpful for these professional caregivers. Indeed, this documentary has evolved out of one of the most popular of these workshops called,“When Trauma or Death Occurs on the Caseload—Ways of Supporting Staff and Promoting Learning.” Vic’s exploration of the subject of secondary trauma has made it increasingly clear that society in general has many unrealistic expectations of its professional caregivers or public servants—indeed a profound lack of awareness and knowledge about the human side of providing professional care. 

Rodney Whittenberg, co-producer and composer of Portraits of Professional CAREgivers, has a varied and rich background includes a depth of experience in musical composition, recording, sound-mix and the scoring of films. He is also an experienced videographer and film editor, owns and manages his own production studio, Melodyvision, and he is a sought after teacher of filmmaking at a number of Philadelphia colleges. Rodney has been involved in the Philadelphia music and filmmaking realm for more than 20 years. ACEs Connection is the human and digital catalyst that unites the people, organizations, systems and communities in the worldwide ACEs movement. We are its main information exchange and resource. And we are a support for hundreds of local, state and national ACEs initiatives to accelerate the use of ACEs science to solve our most intractable problems. Our network has 45,000+ members who share best practices while inspiring each other to grow the ACEs movement. We also publish a separate news site, ACEsTooHigh.com, for the general public. The goals of our work are to prevent ACEs, heal trauma, and create resilience. 

Robin Cogan is a school nurse, blogger, and activist. Robin’s blog, The Relentless School Nurse, was created to amplify school nursing. She tells stories from her health office in Camden, New Jersey and highlights the work of colleagues across the country. Robin is dedicated to gun violence prevention and sharing the importance of trauma-responsive education in school communities. She also teaches the next generation of school nurses at Rutgers University and grounds her curriculum in “A Pair of ACEs” - both individual and community adversity.

The Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy & Practice (CTIPP) has launched a nationwide grassroots campaign to engage congressional offices and other federal leaders in supporting policies, programs, legislation, and appropriations that prevent and respond to trauma as well as build resilience.
