QUEST Movie: A Benefit for the Coalition on Homelessness

Quest-The Truth Always Rises" is an important film about trauma, love, and resilience. I know the film maker of Quest, and I know how passionate he is to help people understand about Adverse Childhood Experiences and what can happen when one person believes in you. Santiago Rizzo tells a compelling story of his childhood that all should see.  His passion is contagious, and his willingness to speak about trauma, the power of love, and the need for honesty is powerful. I suggest folks go and see this film, and then show it to your community. There are so many teachers who have kids in their classrooms who are hurting like Santiago was. Tim Moellering was unique. He was a kind, funny, and caring middle school teacher. He didn't judge the kids who were in trouble, but instead asked "What happened to them?" He understood that behavior has meaning. He was a true hero.

"Quest is a magnanimous love story highlighting our need for healing and empathy told from a 12 year old in crises on the street, addicted to tagging and losing faith in humanity. His home life is a mess with an abusive step-father (Lou Diamond Phillips - La Bamba) and a mom (Betsy Brandt - Breaking Bad) who doesn't believe him. On a path to expulsion, his coach and history teacher, Tim Moellering (Dash Mihok - Ray Donovan) from Berkeley, sees his recklessness as a cry for help. As much as Mills pulls away, he finds himself compelled to try to trust, just one more time."

About the director

Any kind of art that comes from a place of truth, is valid. And I think these days art is being corrupted by politics and status and that is not good for humanity.” Santiago Rizzo was “Mills” in Quest. The lessons he learned from Tim Moellering – compassion, honesty, and unconditional love – helped propel him from a life on the street to emancipated minor, Student Body President of Berkeley High School, Stanford University, and on to Wall Street. He left finance to build a house with Tim before he died of pancreatic cancer in 2011. A house that was later sold to fund the creation of Quest. Tim never broke a promise to Santiago and Quest is “Based on Promises Never Broken…” Santiago and Tim wrote the first drafts of Quest together. For Santiago, making Quest is about passing on what Moellering gave him. “We all depend on one another. And we all share the same earth. None of us can hide from the truth that our children are inheriting and it’s time to come together to start healing.”

Thank you so much Jo Lyn. You can see from his web site https://www.thetruthalwaysrises.com/ that the film as been around for over a year and has received some awards. The acting is really good.  I don't know all of the issues he faces, but he hasn't been able to get distribution, perhaps in part because of the content, but I'm not sure. I will pass on your message to him. Thank you so much.

Rona, Is this film created from a book?
Once the film has a platform of 10,000 people... it can most likely go anywhere and become anything... just like books. If not already in the works, I would encourage the producer to have a launch party, inviting 1000+ trauma informed coaches, therapists and educators to opt in for reduced price viewing.
Education is the often the first step toward significant change, so I would also encourage creating an online educational course or masterclass (specific to the target group) that helps people examine WHAT the teacher did that made so much difference, and HOW it can be repeated to help others. In this way, the film can become self-supporting and even profitable. If these ideas are helpful, I welcome the connection via email. I can recommend specific software platforms and marketing methods, and even groups, depending on the goals for the film. jolyn.cornelsen@gmail.com

If someone is interested in connecting with Santiago Rizzo, the film maker and the person the story is about, you can reach him at srizzo@gmail.com.

He is looking for support to get this deeply moving film out into the world. I feel like it can raise much needed awareness to the struggles of the people we all see on the streets, and in prison, and the kids who are sent to the principal's office on a regular basis. It is a film filled with compassion and reality.

Thank you for your interest and help.

Rona

Jo Lyn, thank you. The producer does need help with marketing, but he is wanting to get the right person...someone who really gets what the film is about and understands the importance of it. Happy to connect with you. I'm a friend of his, and my daughter had the teacher in the film who saved his life. Rona

The film "Quest–The truth always rises" is not available online  yet. Santiago is working really hard to get it into theaters and schools and prisons. If anyone wants to connect with him, I can help make that happen. If you google Quest, another movie shows up, so he said to always put in  "Quest–The truth always rises."

I would love to help him get it seen by folks who are working with ACEs and trauma informed care.  Thank you for asking.

Rona
