I am honored to introduce my newly published book, which aims to help people understand the normal impacts of intense or ongoing stress. The book uses metaphor to help understand our complex brains, and to have some distance while considering some potentially emotional and challenging topics.
The word "trauma" has become so widely used, that some may not understand all that it implies. By focusing more on what's happening in the brain, hopefully we will pass less judgment on others and ourselves. This book explores the impact of existing in a culture that doesn't celebrate emotional intelligence, and the wounds inflicted on those who do not identify with the majority.
As a sex therapist, I also focus intently on topics of sexuality and sexual health, which are highly sensitive to stress, even if they were not directly connected to hurt. Guidance for coping, healing, and offering support to others is detailed in practical ways. This book is intended for anyone, and would be an ideal adjunct to therapy. Reflection questions are included with each chapter to help facilitate personal exploration and understanding.
