Johann Hari on "Deaths of Despair" and Rebuilding Connections in America [thefix.com]
In Johann Hari 's bestselling book, Chasing the Scream: The First and Last Days of the War on Drugs , the British author explored misconceptions of addiction. It is not the drugs themselves that lead to dependence, he argued. Rather, it is one's environment and the attempt to self-medicate and alleviate pain that are the true causes of addiction. Three years later, Hari's follow up, Lost Connections: Uncovering the Real Causes of Depression—and the Unexpected Solutions , digs beneath...

NEW BOOK REVIEW: Lost Connections: The Real Causes of Depression and the Unexpeced Solutions, by Johann Hari
I loved Johann Hari's book Chasing The Scream-The First & The Last Days On The War on Drugs so much, that I immediately purchased his newest book: Lost Connections: The Real Causes of Depression and the Unexpected Solutions , and listened to it on Audible. It was so good, I couldn't stop listening to it and finished it within 3 days! All I can say is READ or LISTEN To IT! It is so relevant to ACE's science. He references Dr. Felitti and the ACE's research in it. He also covers childhood...

I would love to connect with you over a phone conversation. I head up the Orange County ACEs Community on Acesconnection.com. Re: NEW BOOK REVIEW: Lost Connections: The Real Causes of Depression and the Unexpeced Solutions, by Johann Hari
Oh my gosh! Yesterday I had to drive from SD to LA and back and ordered the audible version for the drive. I was riveted! I'm usually aggravated by the horrible Los Angeles traffic, but this time I was quite fine because I was able to get through 2/3 of the book in one day. I loved that Hari had an entire chapter on ACEs. I found his premise--that we need human connection and that anything that severs that (ACEs, the trappings of modern society, etc.) has dire consequences--airtight.

Thanks for sharing a new book I hadn't heard of, I'll have to read it at my leisure. I love discovering something like this and getting attached to the characters. So having recently read blood meridian the Louis Toadvine character appealed to me the most. And the book itself played its role for me once.
