Magalia native, Brown grad pens memoir on the ridge, childhood (Enterprise Record)

Lenaker hoping to raise awareness for those whose families have suffered through poverty, addiction

MAGALIA — Anna Lenaker found a real home in Magalia, among the trees above Chico, during high school. To this day, although she has lived on either side of the Atlantic Ocean in the past five years, she still tells people Butte County is home.

Now, a memoir is materializing from her experiences and desire to connect with communities like her own and others who have suffered through poverty, addiction or the disasters of climate change.

And due to her own experiences with poverty, homelessness and family addiction, she hopes to be able to address what she learned in academia in a more accessible way. Lenaker spent time at the Clinton Foundation in public health, helping analyze stigma reduction programs, learning how to have conversations to ”systematically dismantle all of these negative assumptions and prejudices we push onto people who have struggled with addiction.”
