August 18th CTIPP CAN Call - Trauma-Informed Advocacy Workshop

Please join us for next week's CTIPP CAN Call, which will be a workshop to practice advocating for and continuing to build the trauma-informed movement.

The call will begin with a discussion about the FY22 House Labor, HHS, Education, and Related Agencies report. There was a lot to celebrate, as well as opportunities for growth in the future.

This month's main presenters are Dan Press, Jesse Kohler, and Whitney Marris of the National Trauma Campaign core team. The CTIPP CAN call will cover: Why advocacy is important; How to advocate effectively; and What to advocate for right now. Participants will be invited to develop and practice their advocacy pitch through independent work and small groups, as well as explore what kind(s) of advocacy they want to partake in. For this activity, it may be helpful if you have a notepad and pen, though a word document on your computer works perfectly as well!

• Dan Press is general counsel for the Campaign for Trauma-Informed Policy & Practice (CTIPP) and the head of its policy committee. Having represented Native American tribes for over 50 years, his immense knowledge of Congress and advocacy for underrepresented groups and issues is unmatched.
• Jesse Kohler is the executive director of CTIPP. Above all else, he is a passionate advocate and creative in how he makes issues relate to advancing the trauma-informed movement.
• Whitney Marris is a recent graduate of and current consultant for the Institute on Trauma and Trauma-Informed Care (ITTIC), while working toward becoming a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). She does trainings of all sorts for various systems and groups across the country.

This workshop will help to prepare advocates to best leverage the opportunities available - of which there are currently several - to continue building the movement and implementing trauma-informed, resilience-focused, healing-centered, and grassroots-led approaches, principles, environments, and systems. Please join us and share the call with those in your network who may be interested!

Next Month's CTIPP CAN Call

September 15th, 2-3:30pm ET/11am-12:30pm PT - Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health

We will be joined by professors and researchers from Montclair State University who will discuss several programs they have developed and operate promoting infant and early childhood mental health, as well as staff from Prevent Child Abuse America who will discuss their advocacy for prevention to enhance children's mental health.
