This is certainly a step in the right direction. Nonetheless it faces huge and horrendous systemic problems: (1)The USA has a third world mental health system - so skimpy the even the wealthy sometimes cannot find good care. (2) Qualified mental health workers are in short supply. (3) Community based mental support clinics are by and large under financed and have waiting lists. (4) Generally good health care has barriers based on insurance and ability to pay. (5) Mental health providers that are culturally and linguistically capable are even in shorter supply.
988 alone is hardly a solution. Everyone must advocate for a not for profit universal national health system with patient centered priorities. The sooner the better!
