HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. — More than two times the amount of people are committing suicide in Humboldt County than statewide in California, according to recent data found in the 2018 Humboldt County Department of Health and Human Services Community Assessment.
Officials at DHHS say that they are conducting a Suicide Fatality Assessment to try and find out what the risk factors are when it comes to suicide throughout the county.
"The numbers are way too high," said Kris Huschle Humboldt's Senior Health Education Specialist. "To me, that indicates that we are a community that is grieving and has despair; that affects people. We want to do something about it, so there's also a lot of hope."
