Job Opportunities with California ACEs Learning and Quality Improvement Collaborative

Three new UCSF job opportunities to be part of California’s effort to reduce toxic stress with ACEs Aware

UCSF’s Center to Advance Trauma Informed Healthcare (CTHC) is leading the California ACEs Learning and Quality Improvement Collaborative (CALQIC), a two-year shared learning project involving 50 pediatric and adult clinics in 5 CA regions. The goal of CALQIC is to integrate screening and response for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) into healthcare settings in a way that enhances connection
between patients and providers, helps connect patients to services that want and need, and leads to better outcomes and experiences of care for all involved.

CALQIC is a key pillar of ACEs Aware, a new statewide initiative led by California’s first Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, and the California Department of Health Care Services. Beginning January 1, 2020, providers of care for the 13+ million patients in the state’s Medi-Cal system will start screening for adverse childhood experiences (ACEs). CALQIC is now hiring three key positions to be based at the UCSF Parnassus campus. Interested applicants should have demonstrated passion and experience in social, racial and/or health justice.

  • Content Team Lead

The Content Team Lead is a key position who will oversee CALQIC’s effort to clarify and synthesize information and learning about the foundational clinical topics addressed by the initiative (e.g., methods to effectively integrate screening for adversity, distress, and strengths into front-line primary care settings; effective responses to disclosures of adversity; methods to address community-level trauma in the health system). The Content Team Lead will coordinate and support the UCSF Clinical Advisory Committee (CAC), composed of experts in the fields of trauma, pediatrics, adult medicine, implementation science and health equity.  They will supplement the input from the CAC with information from reviews of published peer-reviewed and “grey” literature, books and presentations; interviews with thought leaders; feedback from the coaches on the front-lines of the initiative; qualitative interviews with patients performed by our evaluation team; and from other relevant sources. The Content Team Lead will be a primary liaison between the UCSF academic team and the Center for Care Innovations (CCI), who will be our partner leading the activities, coaching, and convenings of the Learning Collaborative. As such, the position requires the ability to work with experts from a variety of relevant fields, integrate their input with other sources of knowledge, and synthesize this information into practical guidance for coaches and clinicians in front-line Medicaid clinics.  The Content Team Lead will also integrate input from the UCSF Center for Community Engagement, which is providing consultation and support to CALQIC.  They will be responsible for drafting summaries and manuscripts describing existing information (i.e., systematic reviews of the literature on key topics) as needed by members of the USCF and CCI teams and for drafting reports and manuscripts describing understandings gained from the initiative. They will help translate knowledge gained from these activities into practical tools to be used by clinics in the Learning Collaborative and by the State for its broader mission to reduce toxic stress. They will have a MD, PhD, MPH, or related degree, experience in scholarly writing, and at least 2 years of clinical or academic experience working in the field of trauma, the social determinants of health, and/or behavioral health.

This position will be posted soon. Interested applicants should send a cover letter and resume to Dr. Anda Kuo at Anda.Kuo@ucsf.edu

CALQIC is co-led by UCSF Professors Anda Kuo, Marguerita Lightfoot and Edward Machtinger in partnership with the California Office of the Surgeon General, California Department of Health Care Services, the Center for Care Innovations (CCI), and the RAND Corporation.
