California PACEs Action

Today is my last day at PACEs Connection—thank you everyone!

Dear PACEs Connection Community,

Today I'm celebrating just shy of three years as an employee at PACEs Connection as I say farewell as an employee. I started here in May of 2019 to fulfill my grad school practicum requirement and was so grateful to be brought on full-time in November of 2019 as a Community Facilitator.

It's been an honor to get to meet so many of you in the PACEs Connection community. I loved meeting with community leaders throughout the US and the world to hear how you all were making a difference in your communities with your trauma-informed policies, programs, and practices.

It was such an honor to get to meet and talk with so many of you over the past three years at our online live virtual events such as Cracked Up: The Evolving Conversation, A Better Normal, and PC Reacts. Thank you all for showing up for those with your enthusiastic attention and participation. I felt so inspired to see all of you there over the years and to know that you all were doing the most to make a difference in your lives, your family's lives, your workplaces, and your communities.

When I applied for graduate school to get a Master of Public Health degree in the fall of 2017, my letter of intent mentioned that I hoped to work in the field of adverse childhood experiences health science communication. So I'll forever be grateful that PACEs Connection helped my dreams come true!

I have loved this work and getting to meet and work with so many inspiring people!

I will still be a community member here at PACEs Connection and I have some writing pieces in the works—so stay tuned. The next time you see my posts, it will be as a community member and not a staff member. I look forward to continuing great conversations around PACEs and trauma-informed care. I look forward to reading about everyone's community progress and celebrating PACEs Connection's projects and programs.

To follow along with my journey:

  • Listen to my trauma healing podcast! It's called Latchkey Urchins & Friends. You can find it on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Audible, and any podcast app. All the links are here.
  • Sign up for the mailing list of the podcast I co-host. You can go to https://www.latchkeyurchins.com/ and there's a Mailchimp sign-up form on the homepage.
  • Follow my podcast on Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/latchkeyurchins/

Latchkey kids are children who grew up taking care of themselves because there weren't adults around, either physically or emotionally. We may have felt like street urchins, roaming our neighborhood looking for something to do, and we may have turned into sea urchins, our spiny, prickly parts keeping others at a distance. Whether you're a latchkey kid, an urchin, or a friend, our podcast is for anyone seeking to decrease the stigma of discussing important mental health topics. We interview different guests and release 1 new episode each week on Tuesdays.

I'm planning to do some trail running, clean my house, practice yoga, meditate, and continue my goal to read 52 books this year. I do not have another full-time role lined up. I'm looking forward to resting and practicing self-care before I set a new goal moving forward. I'm excited to dream up what will come next and explore opportunities!

Thanks for following along and for your well-wishes!

Warmly,

Alison
