Did you know that paid family leave (PFL) policies provide essential job protection and income replacement for parents and caregivers who take time away from work to care for a new child or family member? Research also shows that PFL positively impacts the health and well-being of both babies and the adults who care for them. And paid family leave is all the more critical now, as families struggle to navigate this new normal with limited access to child care and the added responsibilities of homeschooling in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Currently 40 percent of workers could potentially be fired when taking PFL because they work for an employer with fewer than 50 employees. No one should have to risk losing their job so that they can take care of a child or loved one. SB 1383, Expand Job Protection for Working Families, would expand job-protected leave to all employees working for an employer with at least five employees.
SB 1383 passed the Assembly Appropriations Committee last week, but still faces strong opposition in its path forward. We need your support to make sure this critical bill passes!

One in four US mothers return to work 10 days after giving birth. We need to treat the people who are birthing the future of our country better than this.
