Session 2, August 17: Be Well Care Well: An Innovative Approach to Supporting Early Childhood Educators' Well-Being

The Be Well Care Well (BWCW) program is an initiative that promotes and supports the well-being of early care and education providers working in childcare programs so that they are better equipped for the challenges of their daily work. The objective of the BWCW program is to help educators build their resiliency. Doing so improves their ability to reduce and buffer the effects of stress and hardship, and in so doing, improve their ability to meet the social-emotional and learning needs of the young children in their care. Initial evaluation results demonstrated significant positive changes in many aspects central to the BWCW program initiatives, including the quality of teacher-child interactions, distinguishing the BWCW strategy as a promising approach.

The high levels of stress, depression, and poor psychological health of early childhood educators is widely recognized, as is the impact their well-being can have on the children in their care. However, there are almost no state or community level interventions designed to address the issue. This learning experience will share an evidence-informed program that can be implemented broadly to reduce educators' stress and burnout and improve their physical health and nutrition.
