Webinar Description
This webinar will explore the personal and professional perspectives of Black Police/Law Enforcement Officers in America. Presenters will discuss the challenges and complexities of dual consciousness, that of being both an African American/Black person and a Police Officer. Speakers will talk about how they manage racial profiling, police brutality, racial injustice; and their ability to effect changes in policy.
Officers will also discuss how they grapple with the potential trauma that their uniform evokes and signifies within the African American/Black community. They will speak about their efforts in relationship building among African American/Black youth and the community. Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the presentations.
Objectives
Attendees will be able to:
1. Describe dual consciousness as it relates to Black Police/Law Enforcement Officers.
2. Identify strategies and practices outlined in Community Policing.
3. Learn ways in which Black Law Enforcement personnel deal with racism on the job.
4. Learn ways in which the relationship between Black Police Officers and the Black Community can be strengthen.
