Destination Health: Addressing Societal Trauma

Just as we know that childhood trauma leads to poor health outcomes later in life, experts are concerned about the long-term effects of COVID-19 as a type of societal trauma. In this panel conversation, we will explore how significant this risk is, and what steps we can take to mitigate the impact. Featuring opening remarks from Kaiser Permanente Chairman and CEO Greg Adams, the discussion will be moderated by KQED-FM (San Francisco NPR affiliate) news anchor Mina Kim and will include the following panelists:

  • Nadine Burke-Harris, MD, California Surgeon General and Trauma Expert
  • Rosny Daniel MD, Emergency Room Doctor, UC San Francisco and a COVID-19 survivor
  • Saru Jayaraman, President, One Fair Wage, Co-Founder of Restaurant Opportunities Centers United

We are convening this panel as part of Destination Health, a four-part thought leadership series on the future of health, featuring in-depth conversations on the challenges driving physical, mental, and social health. The first in the series, held August 14, 2019, explored solutions to solving homelessness. The second event, on February 19, 2020, advanced solutions for preventing gun violence.

We hope you will join us as we share ideas, resources and tools to help people get through COVID-19 and discuss what will be needed to support communities as we transition to a new 'normal.'
