Brief Descriptions of Events
An Introduction to PACEs Connection (45 Minutes). An introduction to your membership at PACEs Connection and its benefits. Please note, this is the first required module of the PACEs Connection Creating Resilient Communities program.

Introduction to PACEs Science (1 hr). This module will introduce participants to the commonly heard terms related to PACEs Science, including the definition, physiology, and impact on well-being of:
- Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)
- Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs)
- Trauma
- Toxic Stress
- Resilience
- Healing

PACEs Science and Social Justice (1 hr), This module will introduce participants to the ways that PACEs connect to life outcomes, as well as the social justice issues that many communities have long worked to address. Connections between issues, outcomes, and PACEs will include:
- Child abuse and neglect
- Substance abuse
- Untreated Mental Illness
- Domestic violence and sexual assault
- Community Violence
- Systems/State Violence

Is PACEs A Movement? (1 hr). This module will explore the meaning of movement, and a few key attributes of a movement that can apply to the work being done to accelerate the PACEs movement. We will explore the meanings of key terms in the context of social movement, and participants will share their experiences of movement and social justice work.

A PACEs Lens on Organizing for Social Justice (1.5 hrs). In this module, we will discuss how people in the PACEs movement have long been grappling with the gaps in the PACEs framework, and long standing failure to address systems-induced toxic stress. Participants will learn and be able to explain what is meant by:
- Adverse Community Experiences
- Atrocious Cultural Experiences
- Structural Traumas:
- Racial Trauma
- Historical Trauma
- Systems Trauma

Organizing For Resilient Communities (1.5 hrs). Participants will share from their own experiences and develop a common vocabulary for creating social change while adopting a PACEs lens. In this module, participants will be introduced to several trauma informed change models currently in use nationwide. Participants will conclude this final module in the series by outlining how they might approach starting a new PACEs initiative, or applying an equity centered PACEs framework to their existing social justice work. To inspire your work, we will highlight several frameworks and initiatives from across the field that center social justice.

Creating Partnerships on the Path to a Just Society (1 hr). Big community challenges call for innovative, cross-sector solutions. There are so many ways adverse childhood experiences affect our children, families, and communities. Many PACEs Connection communities meet challenges with public-private partnerships, and are seeing remarkable results from healing-centered approaches that may work in your community, too!

Trauma-Informed Justice Systems (1.5 hr). This event will discuss issues pertaining to trauma-informed justice systems, including discussion of the relationship between trauma and involvement in justice systems, as well as exploration of practices that can be used to help create trauma-informed justice systems.

Introduction to PACEs in Education (1 hr). An introduction for both education and non-education folks interested in the effects of Positive and Adverse Childhood Experiences in school settings and the practices of trauma-informed schools.

Environmental Justice 101 (1 hr). An introduction to environmental justice and the way it relates to positive & adverse childhood experiences. Climate change is an issue that all communities face. Join us to understand more!

Introduction to Arts as Healing A Community (1.5). Art can heal as well as harm. This event will introduce participants to the concept of arts as a healing modality, and will link racial trauma in the arts, to recent evidence on the neuroscience of the arts. Participants will learn guidelines for incorporating truly healing arts into community programming.

Bridge to Growing a Resilient Community (1 hr). Are you ready to take what you have learned in Creating Resilient Communities (CRC) and begin growing your community to deepen the PACEsβ work? This session will introduce you to the PACEβs Connection Growing a Resilient Community (GRC) program. It will take you through the five-part resiliency model, which focuses on educating, aggregating, engaging, activating, and celebrating as you develop your community as an advocate.
