Bridge Program TA Call
Tuesday, February 26th 2019
The Child Care Programs Bureau (CCPB) hosts a Bridge Program technical assistance call on the last Tuesday of each month from 1-2 pm to provide an opportunity to share best practices and challenges in implementing the Bridge Program. Please send specific questions or suggestions for discussion topics to childcarebridge@dss.

ACEsConnection Monthly Highlights
California’s new Governor, Gavin Newsom, has shown his dedication to mitigating the effects of trauma in vulnerable populations through his proposed budget. He has allocated funding for ACEs screenings for children and families on MediCal. Screenings will occur once every three years, and individuals will be referred to counseling and other services as appropriate.
Governor Newsom announces Nadine Burke Harris to be CA's first-ever Surgeon General
Gavin Newsom has appointed Dr. Nadine Burke Harris California’s first-ever Surgeon General! Dr. Burke Harris is a pediatrician and has been a pioneer in ACEs and trauma-informed care, opening the Youth Wellness Center in the Bayview in San Francisco. You can watch her influential TedTalk on how ACEs can effect health throughout a lifetime on ACEsConnection.
What Exactly is a Toddler Tantrum?
This blog post describes research showing that temper tantrums come out of a place of sadness and helplessness, and encourages a shift away from thinking of them as defiant behavior. Especially for children who have experienced trauma, tantrums are often a result of the child feeling a lack of control in their environment.
Organizational Stress as a Barrier to Trauma-Informed Service Delivery
This report discusses the importance of evaluating the structure of organizations that offer trauma-informed services. The systems embedded within the organization can create additional stress on staff, so it’s important to take this into account when considering how to support staff that deliver trauma-informed services.
