The BulletPoints Project has launched its free, on-demand continuing education course, “Preventing Firearm Injury: What Clinicians Can Do.”
The Preventing Firearm Injury continuing education course teaches medical and mental health care providers how to identify patients who are at increased risk for firearm injury, to engage in conversations about firearm injury prevention with patients, and to intervene appropriately for the level and type of risk. The course focuses on several scenarios in which firearms pose a risk, such as suicide, dementia, intimate partner violence, unintentional injury, and mass shootings. Interventions discussed included safe storage, temporary transfer of firearms, mental health holds, and civil protective orders.
The course is available on-demand and free of charge. Learners can earn AMA PRA Category 1 CreditTM from the California Medical Association or continuing education credit from the American Psychological Association.
