The California Department of Public Health Injury and Violence Prevention Branch (CDPH/IVPB) in partnership with the California Department of Social Service, Office of Child Abuse Prevention's Essentials for Childhood Initiative (EfC) has recently released a new resource titled "California Child Fatality Data."
The purpose of this resource to (1) describe the purpose of California Child Fatality Surveillance System (CCFSS), (2) describe the type of data collected by the CCFSS and the importance of those data, (3) describe how CCFSS data is used to inform case investigations and evidence-based prevention strategies, and (4) inform county staff (e.g., coroners/medical examiners, physicians, law enforcement, and child protective services staff) of where opportunities exist to receive reimbursement for submission of child fatality data to the CCFSS.
We are excited to share this resource with all those who are interested in preventing violence, work for counties or work within child-serving systems. Please consider sharing this new resource with your networks and thank you for your partnership and efforts to improve child wellbeing in California.
