How Genes Respond to Trauma and Stress

 
Okay! So, after getting YOUR answers to my crowdsourcing question (thank you for the 100 responses on Facebook and Instagram!): "What do you want to see from me on social media?" the overwhelming #1 response was more nuggets of science, offered with the shared sense that I understand YOUR struggles, I see your suffering. And I do. Oh, you have no idea how much I do.
So, with that in mind, here's a nugget of science about How Genes Respond to Trauma and Stress. Some genes, like the ones that control eye color, are fixed, but most of our genes are in a constant dance with our environment, changing in response to it. Here's how and why stress in childhood can change the way the body responds to stress for life.
