Hope you can join me this Friday November 13th in Baltimore – I’ll be speaking about INTERGENERATIONAL TRAUMA: What It Is, Why It Is, and What Is Being Done to End It, from 1:30 to 3:00 at the John E. Ravekes Theatre, College Community Center, CCBC Dundalk. This is part of a larger, amazing community happening, taking place from 1:00 to 5:00 -- as part of art activist Peter Bruun’s NEW DAY CAMPAIGN: Where Stigma Ends, Healing Begins. Here is a write up about the day's events:
“Poverty. Genetics. Family dynamics. Environment. These and other factors contribute to an array of traumas passed down from one generation to the next. Come explore and experience with us what intergenerational trauma is, why it occurs, and how people in our community are getting the care they need to heal from trauma. The event will include: a performance by David Fakunle, who explores trauma through interactive story telling and African drumming; information and insights from Donna Jackson Nakazawa, journalist and author of Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology And How You Can Heal; and first hand accounts of the power of trauma informed care from Debra Rock, executive director of LIGHT Health & Wellness Comprehensive Services. Learn, explore, experience and discover pathways to healing at this dynamic half-day event in conjunction with the exhibition Touched with Fire: A Family Tale.”
