We ask for your help with a county wide project exploring mandated reporting in San Diego, the project is called the Community Response Guide project. The goal of the project is to create a web-based decision support tool that can be used by individuals who are worried about a child or a family and are unsure if they should make a report to CPS or connect the family with an alternative support. The decision to make a report can be difficult and complex, with major impacts for children and their reported caregiver. If you have ever made a report, we would love to learn more about your experience making the decision.
During the month of May and early June we will be conducting a mandated reporter survey and focus groups:
· Community Partners, 5/26/23
· Law Enforcement on 6/2/23
· Education, 6/1/23
· Community/non-mandated reporters, 6/5/23
We would love to hear from you! Attached you will find a flyer with an invitation to a survey and a flyer with an invitation for a focus group opportunity. Please take a moment to review the flyers and consider participating in one or both efforts. Information on how to participate is included in the flyer.
Please feel free to share these flyers widely. Our hope is that every mandated reporter has the opportunity to share their experiences. Your input is extremely valuable and critical. We will use the information collected from the survey to inform our process of creating the community response guide and strengthening the resources available in San Diego.
If you want to know more about the project e-mail, Tania Jimenez and thank you in advance for helping in this effort!

The decision of whether to report suspected abuse or neglect to child welfare services can be difficult and have a profound impact on children and families. To better understand current practice, several of San Diego County’s public children’s services agencies have partnered with Evident Change and Casey Family Programs to conduct a collaborative review of child abuse reporting trends and practices in the county.
As a part of that effort, Evident Change is hoping to better understand the perspective of mandated reporters in San Diego County who may grapple with this responsibility regularly. As a mandated reporter who knows about responses to possible abuse or neglect of children in your community, your input is highly valuable. Please help us share this flyer or the following survey link widely with others in San Diego County who may serve in a mandated reporter capacity.
