One in ten seniors is affected by elder abuse but only a fraction of cases come to light. This means that most victims’ needs go unaddressed, and in many instances, the mistreatment continues. This is one-day event featuring national and local experts highlights the roles that professionals, advocates, community members, and future professionals can play in addressing elder abuse. Featured guests include: Delaware DHSS Secretary Rita Landgraf; Elizabeth Loewy, general counsel for EverSafe, and former prosecutor; Philip Marshall, elder justice advocate and the nephew of the late Brooke Astor (a victim of elder abuse and exploitation); Dr. Susan Lehmann, an expert in psychiatric depression; and experts throughout Delaware including members of the State of Delaware Adult Protective Services, the Division of Services for the Aged and Adults with Physical Disabilities, and the Department of Justice, as well as local practitioners, UD faculty, and others.
Graduate and undergraduates (from any institution of higher education) are invited to submit a brief video essay to attend the conference for free!
