Advancing Women's Health: Priorities and Progress

Since it's Women's Month, we thought to share this brief blog.

Violence against women and girls often begins at a young age. Alarmingly, nearly 1 in 4 adolescent girls who have been in intimate relationships experience physical and/or sexual violence from their partners by their mid-twenties.

Health systems play a crucial role in supporting women survivors of violence, and the World Health Organization (WHO) has developed new resources to inform, advocate for, and strengthen violence prevention and care services.

Here are six key priorities for women's health:

1. Addressing gender inequality in the COVID-19 response and recovery efforts.
2. Elevating the position of women within the health and care workforce.
3. Implementing measures to prevent and respond to violence against women.
4. Ensuring access to quality sexual and reproductive health services for all women.
5. Working to reduce the burden of non-communicable diseases among women.
6. Promoting increased participation and leadership opportunities for women in the fields of science and public health.
