I recently attended a meeting in Winston Salem that brought to my attention a program the city offers to help people get organized and become successful as small business owners. I started thinking about how yoga could support this process, especially for people who have come from backgrounds high on the ACE Spectrum. As my brain turned, I remembered a great film I saw the trailer for last summer, "Becoming Free". Becoming Free is a documentary film that follows the reentry process of four people in Washington DC who have been incarcerated. They are entrepreneurs with hops of starting a business and walking the thin line that keeps them from going back to old habits and therefore back into the prison system.
I am happy to announce that we are going to show Becoming Free at a/perture on May 7th at 630pm. Additionally I will be there afterwards to talk about how yoga can support those who have had adverse childhood experiences and the importance of accessible and affordable yoga communities to truly support those who are walking this thin line. There will be others from the community available to chat about the systems they have in play to help with reentry as well.
Spread the word and thank you for supporting this community awakening and action! Proceeds from the screening (suggested $10 donation) will go towards supporting scholarship opportunities for those pursuing yoga teacher training certifications to share the practice in their communities.
