From trauma to hope in foster care [petoskynews.com]

 

This article casts a lovely spotlight on a caring foster family while also highlighting the importance of trauma-informed care at one of the many private foster care agencies across the country incorporating ACE informed practice into the care and community supporting children who've experienced trauma. Private child placing agencies across the US work with state or county child welfare agencies to license and support foster parents. Many foster parents prefer to be licensed through a private agency becuase of the additional support they recieve. In this example, Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan, we see an agency committed to trauma-informed care and support for foster children, their caregivers, and their community.

ELMIRA — The Francis family lives in Elmira in a quiet, country setting familiar to Northern Michigan – a short drive from lakes, farms and riding stables, with a quiet backyard that their five children play in – three biological children and two foster children.

The Francises have been licensed foster parents for three years through Child and Family Services of Northwestern Michigan (CFS).

“We decided to foster because we know there is a great need and a lot of kids that could use some stability and positive role models in their lives,” said Marcia Francis, foster mom.
