Psychiatric drugs like lithium, Depakote and Prozac remain a popular choice for care providers trying to calm angry, depressed or anxious children in the Los Angeles County foster care system, but the pills are losing fans amid concerns about side effects and long-term consequences.
Still, in the South Bay and across the county and state, there isn’t an immediate replacement for the quick, easy and cheap answers provided by psychotropic drugs, though efforts to develop more comprehensive therapeutical solutions are in the works.
