A Theme That Recognizes the Importance of Change

Nearly 1 year after her appointment by the Biden Administration, Commissioner Schomburg released a vision for the Children's Bureau that highly prioritizes equity in state child welfare systems, along with the following goals:
- Develop and enhance the child welfare workforce
- Support kinship caregivers
- Prevent children from coming into foster care
- Ensure youth leave care with strengthened relationships, holistic supports, and opportunities
In support of these priorities, the 23rd National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN) and the 2023 National Child Abuse Prevention Month campaign will help raise awareness about the importance of change. The theme, “Doing Things Differently: Moving From the Challenge to the Change,” emphasizes how essential it is to create a child welfare system that can overcome challenges and equitably support the nation’s diverse populations and jurisdictions.
