The footwork for this initiative was started back in 2015 with training happening through out Franklin County for child welfare workers with Emily Thoenen, but we are happy to be underway with this new, focused initiative. Things are picking up for FCC this summer with a few trainings being offered at various locations throughout Franklin County. Two of those being in the next week! Please check out our calendar page to find the details and RSVP.
We've also got a new branch of our initiative taking off starting this fall with a trauma-informed schools pilot program (more details) to follow. Our next committee meeting will be next week on Wednesday June 20th. If you are interested in attending this meeting please email us at franklincountycaresinfo@gmail.com to let us know so we can make sure to save a seat!
You know, it's interesting using the word "branch" when talking about trauma. Picture two trees side by side. One strong and tall, the other weak and barren. What's the difference between these two trees? We all know that for a tree to be strong and resilient when adverse weather occurs it needs to have strong, deep roots.
We can use this analogy of a tree when we talk about emotional and psychological trauma. Healthy loving relationships, trust in caregivers, and absence of abuse and neglect can help make strong roots. But what happens when someone doesn't have these things? Are they doomed to sway and brake in the winds of life? No! This doesn't have to be their story. We firmly believe that healing from trauma is possible but in order to do this we need a community that cares and knows about trauma, where to find help, and what to do to reduce re-traumitization. We need everyday community members, like you, to understand what trauma looks like and how to help people get on the path to healing. We look forward to a brighter stronger future in Franklin County where everyone truly understands that by strengthening one we strengthen all.
