Hey friends. What an amazing 90minute conversation on Friday morning. (next meeting March 8th)
First off, I just want to thank you all for being the amazing community servants that you are!! Fresno County is blessed with your commitment and love for our kids, families and neighborhoods.
So with our diverse group, we had a wide array of thoughts on our conversation of what is “trauma informed” and how does it play out in our goal of ultimately building resilience in our residents and neighborhood.
Overarching themes….(from everyone’s notes)
- We live in communities of high trauma. Though several of our organizations and institutions have ACE’s/Trauma on our radar, there is much to do in the area of bringing depth of awareness to our service providers.
- Our families are not very well informed on trauma data. Many of our families have dealt with trauma all their lives so to them, it’s just life. This is an area of focus for us to lean into.
- Every sector needs to look into how they can be trauma informed-resilience transformed (Education,Health,Workforce, CBO’s, etc)
- We need to make sure we have a message of hope when we engage with each other, our partners and our community.
- We have to be sure to NOT re-traumatize, we need to be aware of compounded trauma, be aware of the 3 layers of trauma; individual, community and environmental.
Okay, so I mentioned the Walla Walla example in Washington State. Attached you’ll find some info on their work from the last 20 years. Also, see this block https://www.pacesconnection.com...ange-blog-samhsa-gov
I mentioned sending a survey you can take so I can get a feel of what trainings in the area of Trauma & Resilience you’ve experienced. I’ll work on getting us a summary for our next meeting. https://docs.google.com/forms/...K2Qm7zhsHbA/viewform
