TAKE THE CHALLENGE: BECOMING TRAUMA-INFORMED

TAKE THE CHALLENGE: BECOMING TRAUMA-INFORMED

This week marks an important milestone in the continued development and evolution of the Fresno County Trauma & Resilience Network (TRN).

In early 2017, Every Neighborhood Partnership (ENP) had the great privilege of convening a small group of community stakeholders (agencies, CBOs, institutions, and initiatives) to discuss what we at ENP had had been learning about the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) Study. The previous decade of living out our mission of mobilizing community stakeholders to serve elementary schools and families in under resourced neighborhoods across the city of Fresno helped us to realize the importance of understanding the emerging science related to the impact of ACEs in our communities.

Artie Padilla, founder and former Executive Director, presented the ENP staff with a challenge. What does it look like for ENP to do our work with a trauma-informed lens? This was the genesis of the Fresno County TRN as we embraced our community partners and other stakeholders and invited them into this challenge asking “What does it look like for your organization and for Fresno County to be a Trauma-Informed Community?”

Currently, we have just over 50 community partners who have committed to “Take the Challenge” in becoming trauma-informed by participating in our Community Milestone Survey! For more information on the Trauma Informed Milestones identified by ACEs Connection click HERE  .

The Fresno County TRN is a work group of the Fresno County Health Improvement Partnership (FCHIP) with financial support for this project generously provided by Fresno County Behavioral Health.   Fresno County is currently one of only 3 counties in the State of California working to gather and present data in this unique way, and to create a more trauma-informed community.

If 2020 has taught us anything, it is the importance of strong relationships among community agencies, organizations, and more importantly, family and community members.

We would like to invite all Fresno County agencies, CBOs, institutions, and initiative leaders to “ Take the Challenge” towards becoming a more trauma-informed organization and county by completing our Community Milestones Survey.  It should only take approximately 10 minutes to complete.

We are grateful for the work you do and thankful for your time.
