Acid reflux is a disorder that effects the esophagus. It often causes a buring sensation that can be quite irritable during food consumption and digestion. The symptoms associated with this disorder can last for hours on end, making it difficult to enjoy the foods you love the most. Acid reflux is caused by an insurmountable amount of gas that builds up in the stomach, and filters to the esophagus. The lower esophageal sphincter acts as a normal safety net for food to properly pass from the esophagus to the stomach. If the lower esophageal sphincter valve is relaxed while food is being digested, acid reflux occurs. Here are eight home remedies for acid reflux.
1. Maintain a food diary that lists specific foods that cause esophageal discomfort.
2. Monitor intake of food, while ensuring food is consumed sensibly.
3. Resist the urge to lie flat following meal consumption.
4. Lose weight. Excess pounds in the stomach region is a breading ground for acid reflux.
5. Aim to exercise 30 minutes per day, and maintain a healthy diet.
6. Allow the bed to remain in upright position.
7. Monitor sleep patterns and positions.
8. Quit smoking.
