Complex trauma, a one day workshop with Katherine Porterfield

Katherine Porterfield PhD is clinical instructor in the Department of Psychiatry, New York University, where she provides individual and family therapy to children, adolescents and adults and supervises trainees working with survivors of torture. In a one-day workshop Dr Porterfield will present foundational information for understanding and treating cases of complex trauma. Dr. Porterfield is the Chair of the American Psychological Association's Task Force on the Psychosocial Effects of War on Children Residing in the United States. She has presented extensively on topics such as the effects of war and refugee trauma on children, clinical work with traumatized refugee families, and the psychological effects of torture.

Assessing risk for violence for juveniles, a one-day program with UVA Faculty

This one-day program trains mental health professionals, juvenile and criminal justice professionals, social and juvenile services agencies, educators, and others to apply current research pertaining to risk assessment with juveniles. Along with theoretical foundations regarding risks among youth, the program includes review of legal parameters, impact of online behavior, and student threats. Faculty for this full-day program will be Janet Warren DSW, Professor, School of Medicine, UVA; Sara Boyd PhD, Forensic Psychologist in private practice and with the Institute of Law, Psychiatry and Public Policy in the School of Medicine, UVA; and Dewey Cornell PhD, Professor, Curry School of Education, UVA.
