Mindfulness Minute Series (1 of 6)

Stressed? Anxious? A little overwhelmed and you havenʻt even stepped out the front door? When are under chronic stress and our stress response system is constantly activated, what is a symptom of stress, becomes a trait or characteristic in which we (or how we may judge others) are viewed. We often respond with the, “worse part of ourselves” as oppose to a “pause and check” which allows us to respond to situations with more clarity from our “higher” brain functions.

Over the next serious of posts, I will be sharing simple techniques to restore calm, I hope you can share some of your favorite strategies to restore calm when you are in a, “triggered” or “alert” stage. The power of 4-7-8 breathing, can be so helpful in restoring calm. When I am feeling overwhelmed, I always try to remember to, "Hanu/Hā" and the 4-7-8 breathing technique allows me to restore calm. It has helped me in the classroom, before an important presentation, even as I am seated in a tight airplane seat, delayed on the tarmac.  Please give it a try, or share how 4-7-8 breathing has helped you.

Mālama,

Danny
