Resilience through play

This is an excellent blog for developing resilience skills in your child. It is well-organized, offering a widely accepted definition of resilience, and includes links and videos for professional development (featuring embedded videos from the Harvard Center for the Developing Child). Additionally, it provides tangible strategies that are developmentally appropriate. This blog could serve as an excellent resource for caregivers and as professional development for staff who are new to the field or to resilience-building strategies. I appreciate that it is “light touch” and developmentally appropriate for early learners.

The Housman Institute is an early childhood organization that seeks to provide research-based and high-quality cognitive and social-emotional learning (SEL) solutions. In future blogs, I will feature the Housman Institute's approach to building emotional vocabulary and supporting emotional identification. I will pair my thoughts on their approach with the Native Hawaiian practice of “kilo” or observation.

I highly recommend reading the Housman Institute blog and checking out their website.

Mahalo,

Danny
