Aloha Jamie, Mahalo for asking a good question. You are right that counseling is going to take some time. Iʻm glad to hear the father is going to get counseling for this keiki. It sounds like the keiki has experienced a lot of changes recently. Moving in and of itself can be challenging for anyone, especially young keiki. Iʻd suggest trying to provide as much structure, routine and consistency as possible and suggesting that the father and child care providers do the same. Predictability and...

Re: Protecting yourself from Emotional Contagion
I like having a term "emotional contagion" for what I've experienced recently. Fear during this SIP period does seem to be contagious. When I was in the grocery store, it was evident when people jump back when someone sneezed, when a mother grabbed her child and yelled at her because she touched something on the shelves, and the empty shelves from panic buying. Luckily we can counteract fear by noticing what hasn't changed in our lives and what we are thankful for.

Is there a connection between historical trauma that our ancestors may have endured and our response to mind and body's response to stress and trauma? Talking to our keiki about racial healing
This is a really good article about tips that caregivers may employ when a child has experienced racism/discrimination. Our COFA migrant brothers and sisters from the Pacific have been experiencing horrific racism and there are many in our community who experience discrimination because of their race, faith, gender and now the vaccine/mask debate.
