Hutchinson ACEs Connection (KS)

Educating people in Hutchinson about Adverse Childhood Experiences and the effects of toxic stress. The goal is for the community to integrate trauma-informed and resilience-building practices into individual, family, work, and community lives.

We Have a Name!

Learning collaborative teams made significant progress on their work.  Here are some examples.

Our group is now called Resilience Reno County.  Motto: Healing for all with all.  Mission:  Increasing the understanding of ACEs- Empowering people to create hope.  The accompanying logo will be developed.

The first draft of an introduction to trauma was created.  “Adverse experiences are an event or series of events which are physically or emotionally harmful that have a lasting negative effects on the individual’s well-being.”  Probably needs some wordsmithing and an accompanying statement with describes the “so, what…”  Stay tuned.

Four processes were identified as important to fostering trauma-informed care and building resiliency throughout our community:

- Communication, to share best practices, ideas and resources within the trauma-informed group

- Recruitment, to expand who is at the trauma-informed table

- Assessment, to diagnose our trauma-informed awareness and practices at the organizational and community-wide level

- Referrals, to connect people with community resources in a trauma-informed way

There are some active experiments which are starting to be implemented.  One such example is the use of a color wheel (red, yellow, green) to help employees or children better identify their existing stress level and then use this feedback to better meet their needs.  It is exciting for members to be taking steps to implement changes intended to improve the lives of clients being served.
