BOISE, Idaho (CBS 2) — As students get ready to go back to school, a disturbing trend casts a shadow over what is an otherwise inspiring and exciting time.
That's the rising number of school shootings in America. A big debate has divided opinions on how to respond to school shootings.
CBS asked several state elected officials about what is being done, and what should be done, to make Idaho classrooms safer as a new school year is about to begin.
A grim lesson learned in recent years is no city or state is safe from school shootings.
Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra says that's why Idaho is embracing a new approach to education called "trauma-informed teaching." It intends to more fully understand a student's emotional needs.
