Students at Wilton Elementary School have been busy little beavers with their usual day-to-day lessons, but one unfortunate reality for many students is bullying. Recently the Wilton Police Department partnered with the elementary school and school counselor Dory Smith to visit classrooms and talk about bullying prevention.
The children were also taught ways to be a “Danger Ranger” which is someone who gets help when they see someone being bullied. Smith and Leathers emphasized being upstanders instead of bystanders. An upstander is defined as someone who recognizes when something is wrong and acts to make it right.
“It has really been a wonderful experience working with Chief Leathers, and the students are truly taking these lessons to heart,” added Smith.
“Not only has the message been powerful and always important, but we sure appreciate Chief Leathers taking so much time to not only spread this message, but also build positive relationships with our students,” said Wilton Elementary Principal Denise Austin.
