It’s not every day that youths in Kern County get to meet a celebrity in person, but Wednesday was one of those days. Rapper, actor and activist Common visited Bakersfield to talk to a group of youths from across the county about issues that impact them, such as racism and discrimination, as well as how things such as prison reform and civic engagement can lead to a better future. The town hall, hosted by the Bakersfield Museum of Art, was one of several that Common will be participating in across the state as part of the Imagine Justice Hope & Redemption Tour, which primarily advocates for criminal justice reform. The tour is a partnership between The California Endowment, Building Healthy Communities-Kern and the Anti-Recidivism Coalition. more |
