Here's the second installment of our monthly series of "curated resources" for our Trauma Informed Lancaster County partners to help keep the momentum going in our individual, organizational and community-wide efforts toward becoming more trauma-informed.
Resilience is “the process of adapting well in the face of adversity, trauma, tragedy, threats or even significant sources of threat.” (American Psychological Association) But resilience is NOT about just “toughing it out” or “getting over it.” The good news is that everyone can learn to be more resilient and we can re-wire our brains for resilience (neuro-plasticity).
This month’s resources for our Trauma Informed Care partners are:
- VIDEO: Brains Journey to Resilience - a 7 1/2 minute video on resilience (with some humor!) from the Alberta Family Wellness Initiative
https://www.albertafamilywelln...ourney-to-resilience
2) HANDOUT # 1: Ten Characteristics of a Resilient Professional
3) HANDOUT # 2: Devereux Adult Resilience Survey: A simple resilience assessment and goal-setting worksheet
We encourage you and your staff to use these resilience resources in a couple of ways:
- to explore and further develop your OWN resiliency
- to consider how you might use these resources and/or make them available to the people your organization serves, as an empowering* and collaborative* approach to supporting THEM to explore and further develop THEIR resiliency.
* empowerment and collaboration are two of the core principles of trauma-informed care
We hope you and your staff find these resources helpful, both personally and professionally. Thank you for all you’re doing to enhance trauma-informed practices in your organization and in our community! Please let us know how we can support your efforts!
