La Puente could be declared a ‘sanctuary city’ for immigrants, Muslims, LGBTQ people (pasadenastarnews.com)

The City Council on Tuesday will discuss declaring La Puente a sanctuary city for undocumented immigrants, people of color, Muslims, LGBTQ individuals and people with disabilities after some residents raised concerns about how minority groups may be treated under President-elect Donald Trump’s administration.

The council will consider two different resolutions, one modeled after the city of Cudahy’s sanctuary city resolution and another that expands on that to voice support for other minority groups and recognize similar actions by local school districts and colleges.

It saddens me that we have to even think about having a sanctuary city and that we cannot seem to live in harmony with one another. Understanding that the isolation is for safety's sake, but still saddened. I hold hope that as we inform about ACEs and how we are more similar than different, we are creating more safe spaces where empathy and unconditional love is the goal.
